Lead Level Modeler
Description
The Lead Level Modeler job is a middle-management position that assumes direct management responsibility for the local team of Level Modelers and remote responsibility of the modeling team assigned to his/her project at 2K China via regular communication with the Art Production person in Shanghai. The Lead Level Modeler reports to the Environment Director. The Level Modeling team is primarily a “service team” for the Level Architects. As such, constant communication with the Lead Environment Artist is necessary to ensure the right assets are being built at the right time and to the right level of accuracy. There are three tenets of the Lead Level Modeler job:
• Definition of creative and technical standards of asset production
• Prioritization of asset modeling work
• Guidance of the Level Modelers with feedback loops and dedication to team member growth/improvement
Additionally, the Lead Level Modeler has to figure out the best way to organize and communicate asset direction to the team in Shanghai who make up the bulk of the Level Modelers on any 2K Marin project. Communication with the production staff in Shanghai and organization of feedback is imperative. The Lead Level Modeler should know what assets are in production locally and what assets are in production in Shanghai at a moment’s notice and know what groups of assets are “on deck” for production next. This is primarily a management position, not a content-creation position. During smooth times when both modeling teams are working at capacity, the Lead Level Modeler may assign him/herself some production modeling work but it is encouraged to keep this confined to low-priority tasks that can be momentarily paused to deal with larger organizational issues in the department.
