Production Manager (Talent Management)

Description

The Production Manager is responsible for talent management of ILM Singapore, a business unit of Lucasfilm Singapore. Works closely with the Director of Production Management and Supervising Producer, Producers and other Department Manager(s) to ensure efficient staffing for the completion of shows. Artist Management • Primary point of contact for allocated artists in ILM Singapore. • Recruiting: Work collaboratively with HR & Recruiting to define and communicate ongoing recruitment requirements. • Long Term Career Development: Manage long term career development for artists – facilitate artists reaching career goals (opportunities for leadership, learning a new discipline, etc.). • Training: Work with Production, Training and Talent Management to develop training plans for upcoming show needs and ongoing departmental talent development. • Managing Overhead and Capacity: Plan, communicate and manage overhead labor within overall Fiscal Plan, in partnership with ILM California. Assess overall ILM Singapore capacity on on-going basis to inform production schedule. • Cross-Utilization: Evaluate and learn individual artist strengths; help develop cross utilization of resources within ILM Singapore and across Studio when required. • Staffing: Provide expertise for efficient talent distribution across shows. • Performance Reviews: Facilitate the End of Show Performance Reviews for each artist, and prepare and deliver Annual Reviews. Provide constructive, actionable feedback at review time, and throughout the year. • Compensation: Negotiate rates/increases, with guidance from Producer and HR. • Timecards: Oversee timecards across teams & resolve issues as needed. • Vacation Requests: Finalize the approval process for vacation requests. High level Scheduling/Crewing across Department • Looks across department to ensure needs of present and future shows are being met with artists; formulates plan of action if that is not the case (training, hiring, etc.). • Work with Producers and discipline leads to assign artists to shows based on type of work and skill set. • Interact with Producers and Production Managers on day-to-day crew needs. Coordinate changes with Management and Producers and inform personnel of changes when necessary. • Maintain regular status meetings with internal shows. • Manage overall scheduling and crewing strategy across ILM Singapore, using Bodycast and Studiocast systems. Create capacity reports and scenarios regularly. Proactively collaborate with ILM SF team on overall production staffing needs. • Partner with Production Managers to forecast current and future personnel needs based on input from Portfolio Group and Production. This includes maintaining contact with Producers regarding overall crew size requirements, crew start and end dates and show start/delivery dates as well as incorporating bidding data into facility projections. Flag potential problems in regards to any of those. Leadership: • Lead by example. • Support and promote Lucasfilm Singapore best practices across the shows. • Understand the limitations of your knowledge (e.g., technical, aesthetic, client-handling skills, etc.) and seek expert advice when appropriate. • Anticipate potential production and/or facility problems and be a key contributor in reaching solutions. • Provide accurate & timely feedback to production staff and artists in conjunction with other project leaders. Give crewmembers an opportunity to learn; but if they struggle on a particular task, consider re-assigning work as appropriate to meet the needs of the show and the portfolio. • In partnership with Show Leadership Teams, hold all crewmembers to same high standards of performance. • Help mediate and resolve personnel and facility conflicts. Technical Knowledge & Breadth of Knowledge: • Understand the ILM pipeline and its implication on workflow. • Support ILM’s documentation and dissemination of best practices developed on shows. • Recognize limitations of your current technical knowledge and seek to broaden that knowledge. • Must have proven excellence in effective scheduling.
