Compositor

Description

Compositors at Gener8 serve as vital players in establishing new and emerging technology in the world of stereo film. They are the last set of eyes on a shot and the final hands on the assembly line. The fine details that make shots look great are accomplished by careful manipulation and the hard work of the talented perfectionists of our compositing team. They use a mix of traditional compositing techniques blended with a unique stereo pipeline in setting a new standard in the world of conversion.

Compositors at Gener8 are specialists at solving technical problems with creative solutions.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working closely with Compositing Supervisor and/or Lead Compositor to determine best approach to complete shots to project standard
  • Learn stereo production methodologies and develop creative approaches and problem-solving
  • Producing a final overall look that exceeds client expectations
  • Ability to take on mid to high complexity shots
  • Compositing in Nuke
    • Performing tasks such as tracking, matte extraction, colour correction, paint fixes, cleanplates, projection, rotoscope and assembly of live action and 3D assets.
  • Complete work within the schedule while maintaining constant communication with production team and Leads
  • Ability to mentor junior artists with intermediate level tasks and problem solving
  • Reports to Compositing Supervisor

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in the high-end feature film visual effects and stereoscopic 3D
  • Demo reel required demonstrating strong artistic skills including knowledge of cleanup/rig removal, 3D projection, color, lighting, perspective, scale, and composition
  • Proven experience with Nuke is required
  • Experience with Maya or equivalent is a plus
  • Completion of a formal education course in the Arts or Sciences
We are also looking for Compositors with 1-2+ years experience with multi-pass VFX compositing for our Extraction Team. Stereo experience is not required but is an added bonus.
  • Decipher and extract relevant depth layers from Nuke scripts, keeping in mind the needs of all departments involved
  • Assemble "mini-comps" that reproduce 100% of the original mono script
  • Problem shoot and reconstruct missing elements in comps where needed
