The Odd Gentlemen are looking for creators of fine videogame animation to join our team in Los Angeles. Our ideal gentleperson has a deep understanding of acting, gameplay, 3D physics, appeal, composition, timing, and all the fundamentals of animation, to make whimsical and stylized interactive character performances. They will be responsible for creating cycles, transitions, and cinematic animation for story-based gameplay. A creative sense for visual storytelling, technical problem solving, and enthusiasm for pushing game animation into new and unexpected heights are essential.

Title: 3D Animator

We are looking for a 3D Animator to join our team on a next-generation console project. This game will be created in Unreal and will be story-focused.

Responsibilities:

  • Take technical and creative direction from game design, storyboards/animatics, and gather reference material to create interactive and cinematic character and object animation.

  • Regard and contribute improvements to the asset creation pipeline, including workflow streamlining, optimization, file management, etc.

  • Find adventuresome ways to bring each unique character and style to life.

  • Work closely with game designers and technical artists to create and implement animation assets.

  • Make assets with an eye toward maintaining The Odd Gentlemen’s brand for artistic style.

  • Follow a specific pipeline workflow to make sure all assets are game ready.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years related experience in game animation development.

  • Have shipped at least one console/PC title as a 3D Animator.

  • Strong foundation and understanding of traditional animation techniques.

  • Thorough understanding of the technical limitations and optimization of game art assets for various platforms.

  • A passion for story-driven games and fantastical worlds and characters.

  • Experienced in setting up animation sequences in Unreal or related game engine.

  • Understanding interactive cycles, transitions, and animation blending methods.

  • Strong organizational skills and experience with task and file management systems.

  • Motivated to self-manage and actively seek answers, conduct research and explore creative solutions.

  • Fundamental understanding of character setup and rigging in Maya.
