Solutions Product Engineer

Description

Help provide functional and technical vision and design serving as a product engineer for Esri solutions. This is a challenging opportunity for an accomplished GIS professional with proven experience to help define new software development efforts for Esri.


Responsibilities:

  • Work with product management and software engineers to define, build, and release GIS software
  • Capture key user workflows and functions that will be engineered into the software
  • Synthesize user requirements, industry needs, and competitive analysis into an effective product specification
  • Support various projects and work with managers to set goals and milestones
  • Communicate the goals and progress of the team to various audiences
  • Define and execute software testing activities
  • Develop technical product documentation manuals


Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or master's in computer science, engineering, mathematics, GIS, geology, or related geoscience field, depending on position level
  • One or more years of work experience as a software product engineer or in a position with similar responsibilities (three or more years preferred)
  • One or more years of work experience developing and/or maintaining GIS pipeline data (three or more years preferred)
  • Experience with data models such as Pipeline Open Data Standards (PODS) or ArcGIS Pipeline Data Model (APDM)
  • Specific and in-depth knowledge of GIS and its practical petroleum industry applications
  • Experience with relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as Oracle or SQL Server
  • Direct experience and knowledge of applying GIS technology in new and innovative ways
  • Strong desire to define new GIS technology for use by GIS practitioners
  • Demonstrated creative problem-solving skills and ability to propose solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, presentation, and leadership skills

Recommended Qualifications:

  • Project management or planning experience on project teams
  • Knowledge of linear referencing systems (LRS) and highway data management workflows
  • Familiarity with engineering stationing
  • Knowledge or experience with inline inspection analysis (ILA) and/or high consequence area analysis (HCA)
  • Membership or affiliation with Geospatial Information Technology Association (GITA), Petroleum Users Group (PUG), and/or the Pipeline Open Data Standards (PODS) Association
  • Three years of advanced GIS experience in mapping, geodata management, or geoprocessing projects
  • Strong technical writing/documentation experience
