Description

The Creative Director is responsible for the overall creative vision of Parent & Child magazine. They will oversee a production team of four to create the design of the magazine.  The Creative Director will also work closely with the Editor in Chief to conceptualize all architecture and overall design of the magazine, such as the cover layout, by overseeing and approving all designs in his/her direct reports. 
  


Responsibilities

• Providing creative input to the overall look of magazine
• Working cross-departmentally on multiple projects
• Managing budgets, negotiating freelance rates
• Manages 4 direct reports
• Hiring out photography and illustrations/graphics
• Working with the production department to get images print-ready, proof markup, and final approval of magazine layout
• Producing/approving occasional web graphics/elements Adhering to production schedules, budgets and deadlines
• Actively staying abreast of current design trends


Required Qualifications
 
• Bachelor’s Degree in Design or related field
• 10+ years’ design experience in consumer magazines, preferably women’s interest or lifestyle (candidate should have extensive experience producing shoots for/overseeing design of beauty, fashion, food, parenting, and shelter editorial)
• 3+ years’ in the management of a team of designers and photo editors
• Advanced design production skills and strong proficiency in the use of latest design software including: Adobe Creative Suite (CS6), InDesign, & Photoshop are a must
• Tablet design experience and in-depth knowledge of design principles and techniques
• Proficiency in print design capabilities publishing is essential
• Must possess extensive contacts within the photo, design, and illustration industries
• Ability to think creatively and conceptually
• Ability to approach projects with flexibility and resourcefulness
• Ability to work collaboratively with people at all levels within the organization
• Extreme attention to detail
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
