3D Environment Artist (freelance)

 

Job DescriptionAn independent contractor opportunity is open for a motivated 3D Environment Artist who is ready to advance the state-of-the-art in realistic 3D modeling and environments, specifically for real-time rendering. The 3D Environment Artist will work with other artists on the team, as well as interact with the developers. This independent contractor position will report to the Director of Builder Software.

 

The ideal candidate should possess experience with 3D modeling and texturing with a focus on real-world objects rather than characters. The 3D Environment Artist will design and create 3D models, textures, and set pieces for real-time rendering in immersive 3D environments. The 3D Environment Artist should be adept at creating 3D models, as well as capturing and enhancing textures, from examination of real-world objects, photographs, line drawings and other reference materials. Work also includes optimizing 3D models for real-time rendering, including low-poly modeling, or high-poly modeling with optimized polygon reduction techniques. The 3D Environment Artist will also work with the team to determine priorities and due dates, as well as perform other tasks necessary to support the content management, quality control, and software development processes.

Ideal candidates will be based in the Eastern Time zone, and have the availability to start within the next several weeks. Compensation is based on experience and is paid at a daily rate. The 3D Environment Artist independent contractor must possess and utilize his/her own hardware and software, and must have current versions of Maya and Photoshop. 

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Expertise in working with Maya – with an emphasis in modeling – is required

  • Expertise in digital image creation and editing tools, including Photoshop, is required

  • Familiarity with game engines, such as Unity (preferred), Unreal or CryEngine

  • Demonstrable experience in asset and texture creation for real-time rendering

  • Proficiency in other 3D tools such as 3ds Max is a plus

  • Familiarity with architectural CAD, DWG/DWF, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a plus

  • Professional portfolio demonstrating strong modeling and texturing skills is required

  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills

  • Strong team attitude
