Lead Concept Artist - World of Warcraft
Description
The lead concept
artist must have a rich imagination coupled with a high degree of artistic
skill. Their core responsibility is to lead a team of concept artists to create
project defining artwork that expands on World of Warcraft’s (WoW) art style.
This may include anything from a small prop, a full culture kit to a mood
painting that defines the emotional intent of environment. The role requires a strong sense of
caricature and design, color theory, mastery of human anatomy, composition,
architecture and the ability to define and expand the WoW style. The lead concept
artist will report to the senior art director.
Responsibilities
- Create
project defining artwork that explores a wide range of styles and explores
specific moods.
- Collaborate
closely with the art director to keep a consistent vision.
- Provide team
feedback to ensure the concept art department produces concept artwork at the
expected quality level.
- Actively
identifies new areas for team learning and takes advantage of opportunities to
develop the team.
- Assist
Production and other concept artists in coordinating concept tasks.
- Partner with
art management to ensure team is healthy and strong.
- Provide
creative feedback to external concept partners.
Requirements
- A minimum of
10 years’ experience creating concept artwork for animation, film or videogames
- A proven
ability to visually solve problems in collaboration with the broader game team
including other artists, art leads and design leads
- Demonstrated
ability to generate and iterate on artistic ideas quickly
- Fearless
ability to explore a wide variety of ideas that push the Wow style
- Demonstrated
ability to produce final illustration quality production paintings
- A thorough
understanding of 2D paint packages
- Expert
understanding of traditional art methodology including light, form, composition,
and color theory
