FX TD

Position Overview:

FX Technical Directors are responsible for designing and producing high quality animation and simulations of all manner of effects. The ideal candidate is an excellent problem solver with strong and varying technical knowledge and a solid understanding of the effects of production pipeline. The VFX TD will be involved with building and utilizing digital assets, rigs, and tools for shot production. Teamwork is key in the support of the department.
           

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Produce test and often final renders of FX elements for a shot

• Work in partnership with lighters & compositors to ensure shots are delivered to the very highest standard.

• Create working test composites for review by the supervision team.

• Use an array of commercial and proprietary software tools to produce photorealistic simulations of real-world phenomena while developing innovative solutions to complex problems.

Skills & Requirements:

• Intermediate to expert Houdini FX knowledge with production experience

• Knowledge of Maya and production experience with RenderMan would be an asset

• Experience rendering with Houdini MANTRA

• Understanding of natural phenomena and physical dynamics

• Knowledge of scripting in MEL, Python, C/C++, VEX an asset

• Knowledge of good composition and artistic timing. Experience with traditional/2D animation a plus

• Experience with cloth, fur & hair or crowds a plus.

• Ability to meet deadlines and manage time efficiently

• Able to take direction, collaborate, and be a team player

• BC residents preferred but not required.
