Senior Lookdev/Shading Artist

About the Position

As the senior lookdev/shading artist you will create and develop an asset’s look to match the show’s creative goals in a timely manner. You will be shading and texturing assets (characters, props, sets, etc.) and will assist with establishing the look development process together with designers, the director and other stakeholders. You will be working together with the modelling and lighting teams to ensure shaded assets are passed across departments efficiently, as well as working with shading TDs to develop our studio shaders library.

Responsibilities

  • Shade and texture assets based on the production style, designs and colour scripts
  • Collaborate with modelling team to ensure assets meet production look and requirements
  • Build and optimize each asset's shading networks to achieve both look and efficient render time
  • Interpret and implement notes and feedback from supervisor and directors in a timely way
  • Collaborate across disciplines, within the department and with other departments including design, lighting and matte painting
  • Keep a critical eye for creativity, continuity issues between shots, quality control and technical errors and artifacts
  • Be a proactive problem-solver and work with pipeline and production to seek the best possible solution ahead of time
  • Work with shading TDs to develop the look of our proprietary shaders
  • Help create and maintain the production shader library
  • Mentor and train other shading artists
  • Collaborate respectfully and professionally with artists

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience working in feature film, games, or similar
  • Proficiency in using Maya, Photoshop is required
  • Experience in Mudbox and ZBrush is required
  • Experience shading using Renderman is a big plus
  • Strong artistic skills and a detail-oriented eye
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Good communication skills, including active listening, and the ability to accept and give feedback and follow directions
  • Work within production requirements and time frame
  • Accept accountability for own actions
  • Able to meet production requirements on time and to standards
  • Able to take direction, collaborate, and be a team player
  • Able to communicate in a professional and positive manner
  • Able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
