Position Information:
This tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the Computer
Animation and Game Development Program at California State University, Chico
carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service.
These include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses based upon
qualifications of the individual and the needs of the program; developing an
area of scholarship leading to presentations and publications in peer-reviewed
forums; student advising, serving on academic committees, the industry advisory
group, outreach activities, and contributing to the goals of the Program and
University. California State University, Chico is seeking faculty who are
current and competent in their field, collaborative with colleagues, and
committed to student success.
Minimum Education and Experience:
A Master’s Degree, MFA or PhD in Computer Generated Imagery (CGI),
Computer Graphics, 3D Visualization, Visual Effects (VFX), Digital Media,
Interactive Environments, Game Development, or closely related degree from an
accredited college or university by time of appointment. An MS, MSc or MA
requires either: three years of experience teaching at an accredited university
or college or five years of documented commercial work experience in the CGI or
game development industries. All requirements for education and experience must
be met no later than August 16, 2022. Applicants must be able to teach existing
3D modeling courses in the CAGD curriculum and communicate clearly and
effectively with students, faculty and staff.

The person holding this position is considered a “mandated

must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position

Recruitment Preferences:
Demonstrable experience with 3D modeling, modular modeling,
lighting, texturing, and environment modeling for use in production
applications. Expertise in industry standard 3D modeling, digital texturing,
editing and compositing software and production pipeline. A significant
exhibition record, professional industry work experience or a body of
commercially published work. Understanding of and ability to convey visual design
and aesthetics. Ability to work collaboratively and complement the strengths of
an interdisciplinary team within the classroom, Program and University.
Experience with the iterative design process. Knowledge of practical
pre-visualization techniques and post-production techniques. Working knowledge
of the industry standard game engines for production. Experience with
augmented/virtual reality technologies. Research agenda in alignment with
abilities that includes peer- reviewed forums and articulates with existing
Program curriculum and goals. Undergraduate-level university teaching
experience with positive teaching evaluations. Experience in curriculum,
program and assessment development that aligns with, supports and enhances
professional degrees. Experience employing high- impact practices, including
flipping the classroom, and using a variety of technologies to enhance the
learning environment across multiple modes of instruction.

The Program: The CAGD Program offers a BS Degree with two
options, one in Animation, and one in Game Development. Along with the
Bachelor’s Degree, the Program offers two Minors, one in Applied Computer
Graphics, and one in Video Game Design. Typically, graduate students pursue
Interdisciplinary Degrees, working with other programs across the CSU, Chico
campus to focus on a specific industry-related need. The CAGD Program offers one
