Assistant Professor of Computer Digital Arts, Animation and Game Design

The Department of Computer Sciences at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) invites applications for multiple tenure track faculty positions to support a proposed undergraduate Computer Science concentration in “Computer Arts, Animation and Video Game Design”. This fast-growing department at AUM offers a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, a Master degree in Computer Science, and a Master degree in Computer Information Systems and Cybersecurity. Applicants must specialize in 2D drawing and painting, 3D animation methodologies, production, and have a firm understanding of drawing, painting, modeling, animation & gaming. 

AUM is looking for an individual who is excited to join a vibrant cross-disciplinary group of faculty developing this new concentration in a burgeoning field of study.  The department’s animation facilities consist of two instructional animation labs equipped either with 25 seats of Mac Pros paired with 22” HD Wacom Cintiq Pen display, or 70 seats of Dell Latitude paired with Wacom Pen display drawing tablets, along with industry standard software such as Blender, Maya, Krita, ZBrush, and the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.  Existing tenure track faculty in the department are research active with ongoing and past support from NSF and other funding sources. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
 
Desired Qualifications:
The successful candidate should have a terminal degree from an accredited institution in a related field by August 2022.  (For this position, applicants with an MFA (Masters of Fine Arts) or similar degree in the related domain will be accepted) Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate instruction. Preferred qualifications include experience in computer arts production in 2D design & 3D modeling of game assets including drawing, painting, modeling of object, human character, animal, scenery, building, architecture, terrain, environment, etc.; 2D & 3D texturing, rigging, animation, rendering, etc. Proficiency with any industry standard software such as Paint Tool SAI, Clip Studio Paint, Blender, Maya, Krita, ZBrush, TVPaint, OpenToonz and/or Toon Boom Harmony, etc. Experience using Game Engine: Unreal Engine or Unity 3D and Adobe products is a plus. Experience with team and community software development tools and any general video game programming languages such as C++, C#, Lua, Javascript, Python, etc. is also desirable.
