Detailed Job Description

The School of Photographic Arts and Sciences invites applicants to apply for a tenured, associate professor or professor position in its Bachelor of Science program and Master of Science program as the Gannett Professor, an endowed position in the School. In special circumstances, a visiting appointment of 2-3 years will also be considered. We are looking for candidates with significant professional experience and expertise in media and imaging technologies. The appointment begins in fall 2022. Successful candidates will be committed to teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Photographic Sciences (BS) and Media Arts and Technology (MS) programs. Course assignments could include but not limited to courses in contemporary media communications and imaging technologies. The successful candidate would contribute to the community through building the Gannett Laboratories for Integrated Publishing Sciences, organizing visiting speakers, mentoring colleagues and students, and forming research groups. The ideal candidate will provide leadership and help invent the future for the School's BS/MS programs, its students, curricula, and foster a community.

THE DEPARTMENT:
The School of Photographic Arts and Sciences (SPAS) is internationally recognized for its professional study of photographic practices in a wide array of related disciplines, including advertising and fine art photography, photojournalism, visual media, photographic sciences, and media technologies. Alumni are employed across the industry with NPR, NASA, Apple, NVIDIA, Canon, The Washington Post, Zeiss, The Library of Congress, Nikon, The Forsyth Institute, Olympus, Fujifilm, Sony, Adobe and Amazon Lab. Our alumni are frequent contributors to magazine covers such as TIME and WIRED, The Atlantic, as well as The New York Times Magazine. Eleven photography alumni have won a combined 15 Pulitzer Prizes.

U.S. News and World Report ranks our MFA in Photography and Related Media among the top ten photo programs in the country. Our faculty include photographic artists, practitioners, scientists and scholars, including Fulbright scholars, Magnum photographers, National Geographic photographers, Pulitzer-Prize winners, former White House photo editors, Guggenheim recipients, Louis Schmidt Award winners, and more. Required Minimum Qualifications

• MS, MSc, MRes, MPhil or PhD in media, communications, or image-based technologies
• Experience in innovation in media/communications and technologies in contemporary image-based content
• Demonstrated achievement in imaging and media fields, records of which may include conference proceedings, standards work, presentations, publications, patents, and other notable achievements
• Teaching experience and/or industry education experience
• Leadership/management experience
• Academic/industry research experiences, proven track record of securing grants and foundation funding support
• Demonstrated professional communication, presentation, and writing skills
• Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences
• Ability to articulate and implement a dynamic vision and contributions to the future of the photography program in the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences
