Assistant Editor

Role Summary

MSG is looking for an Assistant Editor to join a groundbreaking post-production department based in Los Angeles. As the content delivery team for all MSG Sphere projects, we strive to create world-class experiences at an unprecedented scale for the largest LED screens ever made. The Assistant Editor is responsible for supporting the editorial department for MSG Sphere Studios. This position is an integral part of a fast-paced and agile post production environment whereby staff and contract editors will depend on the consistency and depth of organizational / media management skills possessed by the Assistant Editor. In this role, the ideal candidate will have the opportunity to support and develop an organized structure for the editorial and review process, and to help diagnose problems and offer solutions early on. The Assistant Editor should be nimble, proactive and able to seamlessly pivot between tasks as necessary. The ideal candidate will be able to coordinate and prep multiple projects and support several editors simultaneously, and have a keen awareness of deadlines. This role requires a deep knowledge of non-linear editing software as well as production and post-production workflows for producing high-end content. Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, highly organized and be able to organize footage, sync multiple cameras, manage timecode, conform, and convert files from various sources for the post-production pipeline.

Specific Functions/Activities Summary

  • Organize, convert, sync, log, trim, assemble, and otherwise prep footage for editors.
  • Prep existing cuts for review on site and in collaborative viewing tools
  • Conform edits and break out plates for VFX, color, and audio departments.
  • Over-cut VFX, graded finals, and audio mixes to assure conformity with locked edits.
  • Set up editorial bays and playback systems for editorial working sessions and reviews
  • Help maintain a shared media storage and asset management environment.
  • Recognize, troubleshoot and solve technical problems independently.
  • Regularly meet with leads of VFX, sound, color, and playback teams to foster communication between departments.

Qualifications

  • College degree preferred or additional production certificate programs.
  • 5+ years of online editing experience at a studio, network or post production facility.
  • Extensive knowledge of Resolve, Avid Media Composer, and Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Extensive knowledge of codecs, image types, file formats, resolutions and frame rates.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills as well as juggling competing priorities and changing expectations.
