Character Artist

Description

The Character Technical Director oversees the work of a team of Character Artists as directed by the Lead Character Artist, working closely to address all issues related to the creation of run-time game characters. Responsible for helping to maintain the aesthetic and technical quality bar for the Character Art team.

Work closely with the Lead Character Artist to establish the aesthetic and technical standards for character art on the project.

Make a significant direct contribution to the creation of character art.

Lead by example. Demonstrate, communicate and exemplify clear expectations for quality of work, productivity, communication and professionalism to the team.

Oversee the work of a team of Character Artists on a daily basis, effectively communicating art direction, as well as delivering constructive feedback to work in progress.

Partner closely with the Lead Character Artist, Character TDs and Lead Character Animator to deliver an efficient and stable art pipeline.

Communicate technical guidelines for character art creation and runtime implementation to the team.

Establish a well-organized, focused work environment for the Character Art team members responsible for supervising.

Mentor and coach staff, including having performance evaluation input.

Recognize and develop talent on the team.

Participate in supervising regular team meetings with the Lead Character Artist.

Work with Lead Character Artist to set key milestones for the Character Art team.

Resolve timeline and artistic discrepancies promptly and professionally with the Lead Character Artist.

Maintain and communicate a strong knowledge of innovative game production technologies and the capabilities/limitations of these technologies as they relate to the project goals.

Significantly contribute to the design of tools used in building run-time characters.

Problem solve and consistently present sound solutions to technical issues related to the creation of real-time game characters.

May be called upon to work with the Lead Character Artist and company recruiters to build an outstanding team of Character Artists for the project. This includes participating in the recruiting interviewing and testing of potential new Character Artists.

Perform special projects as assigned.
