Level Architect


So...when you were building forts as a kid, did you prefer to use scotch tape or the family's World Book Encyclopedia volumes to hold the blankets and sheets in place? Has that early fort-building impulse turned into a love of constructing sweet 3D space stations and medieval castles? Would you be excited to design a 1950’s American suburb under attack from a mysterious alien threat? If so, we may have a job for you.

We are recruiting Level Architects to help us build levels for XCOM. As a Level Architect, you would work with a Level Designer to brainstorm, paper-map, and create levels for our game. You would be responsible for planning and managing the artistic side of level construction: modeling, texturing, lighting, and performance optimization. You would work with a Level Modeler for modeling and texturing needs and an FX artist to add particle and shader magic.

If you still love building forts and you play well with others, we wanna talk with you. Oh yeah… we use Unreal and 3D Studio Max these days instead of bed sheets and Scotch tape.



Job Responsibilities

• Work in close-collaboration with a Level Designer and a Level Modeler as a team to create levels for a next-gen console title
• Sketch/paper-map ideas for 3D game locations
• Design and work out the details of modular systems of architecture for levels
• Create 3D assets in 3D Studio Max
• Layout and light levels in Unreal
• Optimize final levels for performance
• Work with Level Designer to make gameplay and 3D space function harmoniously
• Collaborate with the narrative team to create environmental story-telling
• Work with Art Director and Environment Lead to ensure artistic unity across the game
