This is an open rank position on a 3-yr renewable contract. Virtual Technology and Design (VTD) and the College of Art and Architecture seek a dynamic innovator who will blend integrated design thinking with emerging virtual technologies to conceive solutions that give form and substance to our daily activities. This leader will forge strong partnerships with faculty and students in the related disciplines of architecture, interior design, art and design, and landscape architecture, exploring trans-disciplinary approaches to electronically mediated design processes. The successful candidate will maintain close ties to private enterprise, seeking opportunities for mutually beneficial projects. Additionally, the successful candidate will contribute to the student experience and college vision in two of the following three areas:

Interactive virtual environments: Designing and developing interactive virtual worlds for use in entertainment and non-entertainment activities.

Professional practice and entrepreneurship: Addressing the complexities of envisioning, creating and managing professional contracts and businesses.

Motion design: Addressing the needs of design motions, gestures and animations used for non-verbal communication in a virtual world.

Candidates for the position should be qualified to teach undergraduate and graduate VTD design studios, mentor graduate students and integrate the use of virtual technologies and research into design courses. The successful candidate is expected to support the college vision to teach the integrated concepts of art, design, and technology with a focus on cultural and environmental stewardship.

Responsibilities:

Teaching: VTD is a studio-based program. The candidate will have the opportunity to teach undergraduate and graduate VTD studios, contribute to the integrated classes within the college, and pursue an area related to their area of specialty that compliments the program.
Scholarship: The candidate will pursue scholarship and outreach activities consistent with a clinical faculty rank, focused on applied research and the development of intellectual property in support of the VTD and college visions.
Service: The candidate will advise and supervise undergraduate and graduate students and participate on committees within the college and university. The candidate will also promote and expand entrepreneurial relationships with professional communities connected to Virtual Technology and Design.
