Founded in 1907, California College of the Arts (CCA) is an independent art college with undergraduate programs in architecture, design, fine arts, visual studies, and writing. The college also has graduate programs in architecture, curatorial practice, design, design strategy, fine arts, visual and critical studies and writing. DEPARTMENT: Animation

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:
The Animation Program at CCA teaches traditional character animation and personal animated cinema. The program's course of study focuses on skill building and development of both individual creative filmmaking and collaborative animation production through exposure to a wide variety of individual and collaborative cinematic projects, including intensive animation exercises, character and performance study, narrative storytelling, film production, interactive media, and motion graphics.

POSITION SUMMARY:
California College of the Arts is seeking dynamic candidates for a ranked non-tenure assistant or associate level professors of Animation beginning fall 2012. Candidates should be deeply engaged with the fundamentals of animation as well as articulate and collaborative in classroom and critique/dailies environments and passionate about animation as a form of acting and storytelling. They should be aware of the wide breadth of expression and stories in contemporary practice and be able to effectively teach a diverse group of students across all levels of undergraduate experience. Candidates should be dedicated to mentoring animation’s future creative leaders and preparing them to assume vital roles in the entertainment and art arenas. In addition the Animation Program faculty is deeply committed to sustaining a strong and diverse community in an inclusive and supportive working environment.

CCA seeks faculty committed to creating a culturally rich teaching environment that integrates multiple perspectives. Participation in curricular development, the ability to play a key leadership role in strengthening the excellence of the Animation Program, and furthering its national reputation are essential.

This position will be expected to teach 1-4 classes per year in either 2D animation, Character Design, Storytelling, Storyboarding, 3D Animation, 3D applications, or other animation courses. In addition, program-wide responsibilities include participating in program meetings, curriculum design, admissions, serving on committees, and other college-wide service. The ranked non-tenure faculty appointments carry 3 year renewable terms.
