Supervising Editor

Description

Working closely with the Director to achieve the Director’s vision the Supervising Editor edits together the pre-visualized sequences from the 3D story department contributing pacing and story telling through editing. The Supervising Editor oversees the editorial staff in the creation of the animated feature film through every step from 3D story through final film.

  • Assembling and fine tuning the component parts of the film including picture, dialogue, and sound effects, in order to convey a story with rhythm and pacing that reflects the Director’s vision.
  • Attends story reviews with Director and updates the reels to reflect decisions from each review.
  • Oversees the technical aspects of the editing the film and is responsible for the procedures that the editors are to follow.
  • Supervises editorial team in adding and updating dialogue, music, and sound effects, to establish timing and continuity of each sequence.
  • In consultation with the Director assign work to other editors based on their individual skills and strengths.
  • Responsible for reviewing the work of each editor on a regular basis and approving sequences for submission to the Director.
  • Responsible for directing and guiding the overall editing required on schedule and on budget, balancing artistic and productivity requirements, in tandem with production management.
  • Assist with dialog recording and looping sessions. Selects and cuts together takes from production dialogue tracks.
  • Assist with post production, including color timing, final sound mix, etc.
  • Actively participates in the recruiting and staffing of the editorial team - assesses the work of prospective editorial candidates for the hiring process and works with production management on hiring decisions.
  • Partners with production management to guide editors’ overall professional development, providing performance feedback, mentoring, resolving performance management issues and maintaining positive morale amongst the crew.
  • Attend all relevant meetings to promote effectively communication throughout the production team.
