Production and Planetarium Support Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

The Production & Planetarium support Engineer is a member of the Audio Visual and Electronics Engineering Department of the California Academy of Sciences. The position provides engineering and technical support to the Planetarium, Science Visualization Studio, Exhibitions, Scientific Research, Special Events, and other public venues related to the Academy’s missions.  This position requires availability on weekends, evenings and holidays.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver high quality service to Visualization Studio team by solving complex technical problems and helping to pro-actively prevent new issues.
  • Provide rendering and desktop support to Visualization Studio productions ensuring completion of day-to-day rendering needs, dailies publication, and editorial publication in response to production needs.
  • Prepare content/data and operate Planetarium Systems for production reviews. And ensure that Planetarium Systems are readied for normal operation.
  • Daily assurance of all systems in the Visualization Studio is performing at their peak.
  • Performs routine maintenance to ensure 100% readiness on all systems for the Science Visualization Studio including system calibrations, color matching, etc.
  • Work with Systems programmer on the support and testing of Render farm tools and Visualization production pipeline procedures.
  • Assist and reviews hardware and software acquisition for the Science Visualization Studio to ensure compatibility and effectiveness.
  • Facilitates correction on system failures/improvements related to the Science Visualization Studio.
  • Assist in managing technology projects and vendors that link to the Planetarium and/or the Visualization Studio.
  • Supports tools, applications and methods for calibration and maintenance of systems for the Planetarium and Science Visualization Studio.
  • Install/de-install equipment, and generate and maintain documentation of equipment performance history and implement system(s) to improve equipment performance.
  • Cross-train with other staff within AVEE cover weekends and holidays.
  • Collaborates with department throughout the Academy on relayed subjects.
  • Follows all Academy safety procedures and maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Adheres to the Academy Public Floor guidelines for attire, appearance, and behavior
  • Other related duties as assigned
