Position: Effects Artist, DC Universe Online
Department: Development
Location: Austin
Sony Online Entertainment is looking for an experienced, highly motivated and effective Effects Artist to join the DC Universe Online project.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Work with artists, designers and programmers to implement and optimize effects
• Work with the Art Director on the look of the effects with the game world
• Compose visually stunning special effects with the Unreal Cascade fx tool
• Create stunning animated effects(fire, smoke, water, dust, fabric, explosions, etc)
• Collaborate with team members to craft visual effects solutions to gameplay mechanics
• Assist in developing and improving the fx pipeline
• Produce fx assets in a timely manner according to engine requirements.
• Strong communication skills a must
• Strong organizational skills
• Able to work independent, with strong problem solving skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Extensive expertise in 3dS Max and/or Maya, After Effects or other compositing software, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
• A strong understanding of composition, physical motion, weight, balance, texture and form
• Unreal Cascade knowledge
• Background in 3d Modeling/Texturing/Animation
• Knowledge of 2d applications such as Illustrator, Flash, etc.
• Technically savvy and experienced
• Passion for games
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
• 2+ years experience as an effects artist
• Proficient with visual software including Photoshop, Maya, and After Effects
• Experience with a scripting language a plus
• Shipped at least one game as an effects artist
• Degree in Art or equivalent experience
