SUMMARY OF POSITION


NetherRealm Studios, a division of WB Games Inc., seeks a Senior Artist who will be responsible for creating realistic and visually compelling World Assets, World Lighting and Character Lighting for Mobile Gaming. The candidate will work closely with Mobile Art Lead to uphold the game’s aesthetic vision and maintain the highest level of consistency and quality possible.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Efficiently prepare existing World Assets for Mobile gaming, including reduction and grouping for Mobile engine specifications. This also includes reviewing World assets prepared by Junior and Associate Artists.
  • Prepare static and dynamic lighting for Mobile environments.
  • Using concept, production and reference artwork, efficiently prepare new assets for Mobile gaming, including reduction and grouping for Mobile engine specifications.
  • Prepare static and dynamic lighting for Mobile characters.
  • Maintain the high-quality bar established by NetherRealm’s titles. Strive for excellence in the rapidly changing universe of Mobile Gaming. 
  • Report regularly to the Mobile Art Lead with progress.

JOB REQUIREMENTS 
  • BA in Art or related field or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years experience in the industry.
  • At least 1 published game.
  • Experience with the Unreal Engine. Unreal Mobile Development experience is a plus.
  • At least 5 years experience with an industry standard 3D package. Maya is preferred.
  • Expert skill level of Photoshop.
  • Expert understanding of creation and application of Normal maps. 
  • Mastered understanding of Unreal Material Expressions, with emphasis on Mobile differences.
  • Strong asset creation and reduction skills. High to low resolution model and texture set baking skills. Can demonstrate timely, unsupervised completion of at least one reduction and baking process: Maya, xNormal or 3D Studio Max.
  • Excels at preparing assets to run at the most efficient real time cost. Welding and smoothing geometry. Knows how to prepare efficient UV layouts with appropriate nonoverlapping, stacked and sewn UV hulls.
  • High level understanding of World and Character lighting.
  • High level understanding of Unreal World Properties for Mobile: fog, depth of field, bloom, color grading, etc.
  • Has experience with a Source Control program, such as Perforce. 
  • Adapts and adheres to established protocols, file structures, naming conventions, etc.
  • Embraces and adapts to changing technology and art vision for each game. 
  • Possesses strong organizational skills, ability to self-manage and meet deadlines.
  • Works well within a team, provides/accepts direction and collaborates productively with others.
  • Must have an active, passionate interest in current video games.
  • A portfolio/website review of the candidate’s art skills, design sensibilities and attention to detail is required.
