UI Engineer

Description

At lynda.com the UI Engineer creates web pages and the UI of web-based tools to support lynda.com web properties. This role is an expert-level web UI engineer who will be responsible for the presentation layer of the web properties. This role will work closely with the designers, developers and product managers to create a great online experience for our customers that combine customized content, compelling design, and excellent use of current technologies.
 
Primary responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain web pages and tools for lynda.com website using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
  • Make recommendations on design and layout to take better advantage of technologies.
  • Ensure that code written in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript work well across all browser platforms.
  • Serve as the UI technical expert for all lynda.com web properties.
  • Develop UI coding standards and ensure the proper implementation by the various teams and organizations.
  • Optimize CSS, JavaScript, and other UI code to achieve best performance.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned. 

Experience and qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a technology related field or equivalent experience
  • Expert level knowledge of web UI development languages: HTML, XHTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript; MUST be able to hand code HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Knowledge of asp.net a plus
  • Expert level knowledge of HTML production, including cross-platform compatibility issues, download-time optimization and sprites image optimization
  • Strong knowledge of web usability and information architecture
  • Experience working with open source frameworks like jQuery, Bootstrap and/or Angular JS
  • Experience with technologies for streaming data and web casting, electronic commerce and secure transactions, and web tracking is a plus
  • Must be able to optimize web graphics
  • 5+ years of successful experience in developing, executing & managing online projects, including meeting numerous deadlines and objectives with limited resources, on a high traffic consumer ecommerce website
  • Must be able to handle multiple concurrent projects
  • Comfortable working in a team environment
  • Knowledge of templating languages is a plus
