Orchestral Composer

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the audio director and in close collaboration with the game designer and producer of games that are in production at Divertissements Gameloft, the orchestral composer creates music for games destined for consoles and mobile phones.

     
•    Reproduce or adapt existing music according to relevant technical constraints.

•    Compose music in orchestral style that is contextual and descriptive, and that respects demanding technical constraints.

•    Produce music at a rapid pace and under pressure.

 
Profile

•    Must be specialized in orchestral music.

•    Professional experience composing music in the video game industry (portfolio required).

•    In-depth knowledge of audio software for Windows: sequencers (SONAR, Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Cubase, etc.) and audio editors (Sound Forge, Audition, etc).

•    Expert knowledge of the most common VST plugins required for creating music and editing audio and virtual instruments such as Vienna Symphonic Library, 8dio Adagio, East West Hollywood series, Cinesamples libraries, etc.

•    Knowledge of typical audio engines is an asset (FMOD, Wwise).

•    Knowledge of concepts behind interactive music.

•    Good knowledge of technical constraints (memory, mixing, etc.) related to music and sound in video games.

•    Familiarity with sound environments in video games.

•    Degree in music composition and/or diploma in sound design.

         

Skills

•    You have been playing console video games for some time and have a strong notion of current quality standards in terms of audio.
•    The ideal candidate should be a team player; have a strong sense of creativity, analysis and synthesis; be hard-working; have effective interpersonal skills; and have strong organizational skills.
•    The ideal candidate must also be able to easily create and understand the musical and sound environment of a video game.
