Join SCAD as the associate chair of equestrian studies to continue the stellar reputation of the SCAD equestrian department in academic and professional communities. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department, work closely with department leadership, build the department’s reputation, create a strong sense of collegiality and shared responsibility, and teach classes as assigned.
You will also assess and develop curriculum and evaluate professors within the department through class observations, review of student course evaluations, review of service and professional development, and review of contributions to departmental goals.
In consultation with the dean and department members, you will develop a strategic plan for the department that is consistent with the School of Liberal Arts goals and overall SCAD strategic plan, ensure mentoring and faculty development opportunities, assist in the hiring of faculty, make decisions on student academic matters, assist in the recruitment of students, assist in graduate admission and placement of students in internships and careers, and oversee the departmental budget.
The ideal candidate has university-level administration experience and the ability to conduct practical and theoretical courses in riding, horse care, training, course design, judging, equine business management, and more. The candidate also should have documented licensing, awards, and achievements.
SCAD is the first art and design university in the U.S. to offer a comprehensive intercollegiate athletics program and one of the first to offer a program in equestrian studies. Requirements:
— Master’s or doctoral degree in related discipline
— Teaching experience at the university/professional level
— Documented licensing, awards, and achievements
— 10-minute video clip instructing a jumping lesson (group lesson rather than private is preferred)
