Houdini Games Solutions Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our talented games team in this new role, reporting to the Games Director. 

As a Houdini Games Solutions Specialist your main role is to be a Houdini advocate, communicating Houdini’s value and features to our games customers. You are an experienced game industry professional with strong and well-rounded Houdini skills. You learn quickly and will be able to confidently show how procedural workflows in Houdini and SideFX Labs Tools can transform games content pipelines. You are comfortable with on-the-spot troubleshooting and you’re an excellent listener who takes the time to understand what each user hopes to achieve and helps them reach their goals. 

With strong presentation skills and the ability to adapt to your audience, you are a consummate communicator. You love to share your knowledge with others, and feel energized when helping other creators. We would like you to expand your reach by bringing your expertise to our rapidly expanding community of Houdini users. 

As part of the Games Team you will also work closely with Sales, Marketing and Education. You can expect to travel frequently, often internationally, whether to customers or events (conferences, trade shows, user groups and the like). At other times you will conduct online sessions, presenting to audiences both large and small. 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities*

  • Be a champion of our company and represent SideFX to the larger game community
  • Learn existing tools and workflows in Houdini
  • Occasionally work with others in the Games team and in Marketing to create demo content to be shown at various trade shows and Houdini related events
  • Support our Sales Team as needed by taking part in both onsite and remote meetings with both prospective and existing customers
  • Play an active supporting role on public channels where Houdini tools are discussed
  • Communicate with customers both in person and on-line in meetings, webinars, live streams, and the like
  • Visit games studios and provide technical support and onboarding, answering questions and solving technical problems, on site
  • From time to time conduct training for customers
  • Report on industry trends and relay customer feedback to internal teams as appropriate
  • Write regular detailed reports on your work and keep track of your interactions
  • Develop materials to assist sales team in communicating with games customers
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills 
  • Must have great interaction skills and the ability to connect with others in person and online 
  • Strong presentation skills, must be able to create and present content in Houdini fluently 
  • Minimum of 2 years game industry, or related industry experience 
  • Minimum 2 years Houdini experience with demonstrated competency in a production setting 
  • Broad technical skills as well as in-depth fluency in at least one area of Houdini 
  • Knowledge of the game development pipeline and related tools, including demonstrated proficiency with Unity or UE4 
  • Must be willing and able to travel extensively (up to 50%), sometimes internationally. 
  • Ability to work and operate remotely, sometimes alone 
  • Able to articulate an understanding of the business side of development, and the challenges faced by developers in an evolving landscape 
  • A demonstrated passion for procedural processes and tools, and a drive to share that passion with artists 

Bonus Skills

  • Business development, marketing, education or sales experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field relating to Game Development, Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or equivalent experience/education
  • Have experience as a Technical Artist or Lead Artist in FX, Environments or Procedural Modeling
  • Strong presence on social media and in key creator forums
Location

Toronto or Los Angeles office; Other locations will be considered within our company’s possibilities.
