Director of Center for African American Studies

SCAD seeks a director of the Walter O. Evans Center for African American Studies to help lead the center’s mission to educate students and guests about African American art and culture.

Associated with the SCAD Museum of Art, the center is home to more than 60 important works of art by notable African American artists, made possible through the generous gift of Dr. Walter Evans. In addition to the art collection, the center hosts renowned artists and speakers throughout the year in service of its mission to better study, understand, and appreciate African American culture.

In this position, you will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to develop programming that supports the mission of the center, including interdisciplinary programs that involve various departments of the university. This is not a curatorial position.

The ideal candidate should have a minimum of five years’ experience, preferably in an academic setting, and a demonstrated commitment to social change and education in line with the values of the center. Strong presentation skills and proven leadership ability are a must.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Exemplary written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional project management, leadership, and organizational skills
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as needed
