MoCap Technician

Description

Deck Nine Games is looking to hire a Motion Capture Technician to help operate our motion capture stage.

 

Our motion capture technicians get to work with bleeding-edge motion capture technology and are essential to ensuring that shoot days run smoothly and efficiently while ensuring high-quality data capture.

 

These positions will be 100% onsite to start, with the possibility of some work from home in the future.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work within a team of motion capture technicians to capture the highest quality full performance capture possible

  • Able to balance work with diverse tasks and shifting priorities

  • Configure, maintain and operate hardware and software for Vicon Shogun, XSens, and Faceware systems

  • Calibrate the Vicon camera system in preparation for a shoot

  • Adjust, calibrate and align a Faceware helmet on talent in preparation for capturing facial mocap

  • Marker up talent for preparation for capturing body mocap

  • Create markered props with high-level precision to their digital counterparts

  • Manufacture custom set pieces for mocap, using a workshop of physical tools

  • Assemble motion capture sets in preparation of shoot days

  • Ensure high quality data capture/data quality assurance during shoots

  • Work with vendors to quickly troubleshoot and resolve problems

  • Maintain timely processing of mocap animations through our pipeline, using internally developed tools and Jira

  • Edit together dailies videos of reference video footage in DaVinci Resolve

  • Track, clean, and retarget motion capture data

  • Maintain, install and repair studio equipment

Qualifications
  • 2+ years experience with motion capture systems, professional or academic

  • Ability to work on-site of our studio, located in Westminster, CO near Denver and Boulder

  • Experience preferred with at least one of the following systems: Faceware, Vicon Shogun, XSens. Experience with other motion capture systems will be considered

  • Demonstrate an extraordinary attention to detail and the ability to solve problems on the fly

  • Possess excellent troubleshooting abilities, both creatively and technically

  • Proactive with identifying areas for improvement and pursuing solutions for them

  • Able to collaborate with anyone effectively, actively fostering a humble environment of teaching, learning, and growing within the team

  • Possess clear, efficient communication skills

Bonus

  • You have a deep desire to push cinematic storytelling in video games

  • Knowledge of basic camera operation, to record film or videos

  • Video editing experience, particularly with DaVinci Resolve

  • Experience with animation and a content production pipeline

  • Passion for building sets/workshop projects

  • Passion for technological advancements within the industry

Our first narrative game, Life is Strange: Before the Storm is loved by fans and has won multiple awards, including Game of Year and was nominated for both a VGA and a BAFTA. Recently we just announced our next game, Life is Strange: True Colors, due to be released in September 2021.
