Deck Nine’s Lighting team is growing!
We are seeking a talented Cinematic Lighting Artist to join our team in
beautiful Westminster, Colorado.
A Cinematic Lighting Artist’s primary
role is assisting in the setup, implementation, and maintenance of real-time,
in-engine lighting for cutscenes. You will partner with the Art Director, Environment
Lighting Artists, and Cinematics team to define a cohesive lighting style for
our next title. You will drive the quality and visual standards for cinematic
lighting across the project and support the technical development of our
lighting pipeline. You aim to improve workflows, embrace constructive feedback,
thrive in a highly collaborative environment, and will proactively seek
opportunities to elevate the game.
Ultimately, the ideal candidate has a
strong sense of how cinematic lighting contributes to tell a deeply compelling
story and possesses broad technical skills that compliment an artistic eye.
This position can be performed on site
or remotely.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Art Director, Environment Lighting Artists, and
Cinematics team to craft and implement high quality cinematic lighting with
our proprietary toolset.
- Collaborate with Programmers, Tech Art, and other members of
the team to improve our tools and pipelines.
- Create, maintain, and communicate
documentation for lighting guidelines and implementation techniques.
- Work within and anticipate
different production and technical constraints and understand the
budgeting restrictions associated with them.
- Participate in giving & receiving critique to ensure
scenes are as impactful as they can be.
- Author post processing effects
such as color grading, exposure, tone mapping, bloom, etc.
Qualifications
- Two or more years’ experience crafting in-engine (Unreal,
Unity, etc.) cinematic lighting for real-time cutscenes.
- A portfolio or demo reel that
demonstrates a keen eye for detail and the ability to use light, shadow,
and color to create a variety of tones and moods.
- Demonstrable understanding of cinematic
lighting techniques as well as performance and cost considerations within
a real time lighting pipeline.
- Comfortable working with and learning proprietary tools.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and take direction from
stakeholders on the needs for a scene.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal
skills.
Pluses
- Experience creating color key images to guide lighting.
- Passion for games and storytelling.
- Proficiency with Premiere (or Davinci Resolve), After
Effects, and Photoshop.
- A familiarity with narrative driven adventure games (Life is
Strange, Detroit: Become Human, Wolf Among Us, etc).

Salary Range: $45,000-$75,000 DOE

compensation information is a good faith estimate for this position only and is
provided pursuant to the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and Equal Pay Transparency
Rules. It is estimated based on what a successful Colorado applicant might be
paid. It assumes that the successful candidate will be in Colorado or perform
the position from Colorado. Similar positions located outside of Colorado will
not necessarily receive the same compensation. **
