Role Summary

This camera technician-meets-rigging grip will be responsible for supporting a live-action field crew capture unit. This in-house, self-directed strike team will be responsible for weekly shooting in an ongoing effort to define the Sphere aesthetic vocabulary. This experimentation will stretch from the technical to the experiential with the focus on defining “What works in Sphere?” as well as support larger productions when appropriate. This role is part technical camera support and part rigging grip for mounting Sphere-specific cinematography tools. It will also keep our broad palette of custom camera and camera support tools working reliably and identify areas for efficiency with an eye to safety. Expect to work closely with MSG Capture, Production, and Post Production, and engineering teams on projects that extend beyond traditional camera systems.

Specific Functions/Activities Summary

• Supporting reliable field deployment of camera systems
• Rigging, mounting, and support camera systems using in-house industry-standard and cutting edge equipment
• Be an on-set safety lead for ongoing shooting team
• Testing and operating proprietary camera/capture equipment
• Assist in defining Sphere-specific Aesthetic Vocabulary

• Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field or equivalent experience
• 3+ years camera field work experience as a camera assistant or 3+ years field experience as Key Grip or Rigging Grip performing basic camera rigging
• Understanding of film and video production, digital workflows, cinematography, virtual reality, and/or post-production tools, protocols, and environment 
• Be up-to-date on the latest developments and innovations in the field of grip, lighting and cinematography
• Exceptional mechanical and problem solving skills
• Adaptable / flexible in high-stress environments
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs
