Media & Metadata Specialist

Role Summary

The Capture Media and Metadata Specialist will be responsible for on-set digital asset management and metadata collection from a broad variety of capture systems, including ultra resolution high frame rate panoramic / 360° camera arrays, photogrammetry, motion control, aerial, virtual production and spatial audio systems. Works directly with the Capture department, and reports directly to the Camera Systems and Media Storage Supervisor. Role must be field-ready for ongoing Capture shoots.

Specific Functions/Activities Summary

  • Assist Capture department during tests and field deployments, with the ability to operate independently with minimal communication leading autonomous splinter units.
  • Design and optimization of workflows for realtime multithreaded processing
  • Custom Workstation / Server Flypack design, assembly, and performance benchmarking
  • Concise and dynamic communication of complex processes to high-level audiences
  • Instant mastery of ever changing toolsets, including custom in-house software
  • Advanced On-set media and workflow management (Digital Imaging Technician) supporting MSG Sphere production workflow specifications
  • Tracking, deriving, and presenting metrics from captured media assets
  • Prepping media management systems for field work
  • Self-Troubleshooting and identifying equipment issues
  • Providing technical assistance to colleagues assisting in troubleshooting capture systems and performing appropriate maintenance and repairs
  • Testing and operating proprietary camera/capture equipment
  • Time management and resource planning
  • Assisting in defining Sphere specific Capture Camera Language

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in relevant field or equivalent experience preferred
  • 7+ years experience in demanding digital asset management environments
  • 5+ years of field work experience (on-set, film production, or similar studio / production environment)
  • Experience working around A-list creatives and talent
  • Knowledge of checksums, data handling, information security precautions and methodologies and data storage architecture required
  • Foundational understanding of a broad variety of image and audio capture systems and file formats.
  • Development experience in Unreal Engine
  • Critical understanding of digital cinema production, workflow, cinematography, and post production processes
  • Comfort in command line, ability to run and troubleshoot Python scripts
  • Exceptional communication and organization skills
  • Adaptable/flexible and low-stress attitude in dynamic, high-stress environments, with a “figure-it-out” approach to complex problems
  • Able to set up and manage high-speed networks for device control and or live-capture
  • Familiarity with downloading tools such as Hedge, Silverstack, and experience with VFX heavy workflows preferred. Scratch, Mystika
  • Experience with VR, 360, or Spherical capture and production techniques
