Environment Artist

Description

Id Software is looking for a talented and experienced 3D artist with meticulous modeling and texturing abilities for a level/environment artist position. The successful applicants must:
• Show an understanding of color theory, and be able to create balanced & appealing color palettes.
• Understand the aesthetics of environment, function vs. form relationships, as well as what makes a game level fun and intriguing.
• Be a good communicator.
• Work well in a team spanning artists, programmers, and designers;
• Be able to teach and be taught.
• Architectural and drafting experience is an asset, as is previous game industry experience and level design.
Responsibilities Include:
• Will use a superior understanding of specific architectural styles to design 3D environments and integrate gameplay ideas.
• Will use 3D packages such as, 3DSmax, Lightwave, Zbrush and Photoshop, as well as our own proprietary graphics engines, to create high quality art assets that fulfill the requirements of the project’s game design and visual design.
• Will design and develop 3D environments with a holistic consideration for the game-play moments, relative locations of terrain, rooms, and objects.
• Able to deliver assets and levels as required with tight and intense schedules.
• Will also test environments for bugs, playability, as well as fun, and communicate fixes to appropriate personnel.
• Will instruct and work well with others to create our next generation 3D art assets.
• Will assist in writing technical design and software design documentation.
• Performs other duties as required.
• Be enthusiastic and ready to take on challenges.
• Able to estimate and manage own deadlines and communicate difficulties to the art director in a timely manner.
• Communicate and work with the designers and programmers to make the level playable and enjoyable.
