Lighting/ Rendering Artist

Description

Electromagnetic radiation of a wavelength that is visible to the human eye (about 400–700 nm) or up to 380–750 nm. In the broader field of physics, THIS is often used to refer to electromagnetic radiation of all wavelengths, whether visible or not… so do you know what THIS is? It’s light… or for my purposes…lighting… Insomniac Games – North Carolina is looking for a lighting artist… so if you consider yourself a modern day Vermeer or Rembrant, then this is the spot for you! This artist sets up scene light and rendering attributes for assets for levels and cinematic sequences using Maya, Mental Ray and other tools. You would design the lighting for both static and dynamic objects for levels, and prepare levels and sequences for demos and trailers.

What a Lighting Artist does at Insomniac:
• Lights game levels and cinematics
• Sets up lights using both traditional methods and global illumination solutions using Maya, Mental Ray, etc.
• Renders large scene files with Mental Ray, Maya, and proprietary renderers
• Renders via Rush
• Sets up scene lights to match color keys and concept art
• Stays informed about new developments in rendering, particularly with regard to realistic lighting and surfaces
• Troubleshoots large scene files
• Works closely with the tools and engine departments to prototype and test new technology
• Creates and edits HDRI images for image based lighting and reflection maps
• Other duties may be assigned
