JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Passionate about designing user experiences; know user interface design standards inside and out; know when to break the rules? Are your designs easy, elegant and delightful? Do you believe that people should just be able to use applications and not have to learn how to use them? Are you ready to take our web services to the next level in today’s design world? Help us turn user research data into world-class web services by assisting product development teams in designing consumer-level applications. Your challenges will include creating concepts, prototypes and graphic design elements as well as helping product teams design workflow and user interactions. Activities:
* Work with other members of the User Experience Department to ensure that all facets of a users experience are considered – useful, desirable, usable, accessible, learnable, credible and valuable.
* Work with product teams to envision, create and validate user interfaces and experiences for web services and desktop components
* Employ participatory design, creative brainstorming, and other techniques to collaborate with software engineers and other product team members as part of an agile software development process
* Map workflows and user paths, create storyboards, mockups, low and high fidelity prototypes to support development on multiple platforms and browsers
* Design graphics, icons, layout and other visual design elements
* Evaluate designs using user-centered design techniques such as UI reviews and cognitive walkthroughs
* Maintain an awareness of current trends in technology, design and usability
REQUIREMENTS:
Required Skills & Background:
* 3 to 5 years experience in user experience or interaction design for websites or browser-based software including visual design, HTML, XML, Flash, JavaScript and CSS; those with amazing portfolios and less experience encouraged to apply
* Undergraduate training in Human Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Interactive Media Design or related field
* Strong working knowledge of web design programs, including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Flash
* Working knowledge of how to resolve cross browser issues
* Self motivated, with a proven ability to collaborate with a cross-functional team including product developers, user experience professionals, technical writers, QA and marketing creative services
* Demonstrated ability in employing human-centered design practices and techniques such as task analysis, workflow diagramming, storyboarding and walkthroughs
* Demonstrated ability to create graphics and icons that are pleasing and appropriate
* Proven ability to design elegantly simple user interfaces
* Intimate knowledge of and ability to apply UI and accessibility guidelines
* Exceptional creativity and problem solving skills
* Keen attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills
* Demonstrated web design experience and ability (portfolio required)
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* You must be legally authorized to work in the United States
DESIRED SKILLS AND PLUSES:
Preferred Skills & Background:
* Experience designing data driven consumer Web 2.0 applications
* Knowledge of or experience with other tools and technology such as SQL, .NET, Silverlight and Flex a plus
* Experience in a commercial software or web service development environment a plus
* Fluency in a foreign language is a big plus
