The Department of Visual Arts at Brigham Young University is seeking qualified applicants for a continuing status track position in Animation. The position in Character Animation begins Fall Semester, August 25, 2008. The Animation Program at Brigham Young University is an interdisciplinary program between Visual Arts, Theatre and Media Arts, and the School of Technology. Since its creation in 2000 the program has emphasized both large collaborative and smaller personal projects/films. Animation has produced a number of animated films which have won 6 student Emmys in the last 4 years and Animation has had films shown at Cannes, Annnecy, and Sundance just to name a few.

A terminal degree is required, a Master of Fine Arts degree is preferred. Candidates with equivalent professional experience will be considered. Teaching experience at the College/University level is desired. The candidate should have an extensive background as a Character Animator specific but not limited to traditional animation. Additional knowledge of Character Animation in computer animation is a plus.

Teaching responsibilities may include directing student inquiry at the foundation and advanced level of character animation, gesture drawing, figure drawing, and drawing fundamentals courses. In addition, teaching loads will also include student mentoring. It is also expected that the candidate will maintain an active scholarship record in the discipline and contribute to department/college/university committees.
