Roto / Paint Lead

Purpose of the job:
The Lead Roto/Paint Artist is responsible for making sure the paint/roto team delivers all the requested elements in a timely fashion and acts as liaison between Production and the crew, both local and at outsource facilities. The goal is to provide the necessary elements in such a manner as to be invisible to Production and virtually maintenance-free.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Assists Comp Sup and Producer with bidding and scheduling.
Staffing recommendations in collaboration with Comp Sup and Manager.
Interviews and reviews potential candidates with Manager when requested.
Attends Dailies and follows up with team regarding their notes, fixes, etc.
Attends Production meetings.
Assigns shots to appropriate artists.
Provides clear direction and priorities to crew.
Monitors shot and sequence progress.
Motivates and empowers crew to meet deadlines.
Identifies problems and effectively implements solutions.
Quality control on elements from local and outsource talent, delivered to compositors.
Fast and efficient paint/roto on complex shots as needed or time allows.
Mentors less experienced artists.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience Required:
At least 4+ years on feature film VFX work alone, not including stereo conversion experience.
Must have Nuke experience.
Keen eye and attention to detail for reviewing roto/paint shots Understanding of photography, composition, lighting, color and motion. Demonstrated leadership qualities.
Strong communicator with artist, supervisors, and managers.
Strong time management in delivering shots.
Solid organizational skills for priority shot task requests.
Aesthetically and creatively capable of producing high-quality images.
Professional in all dealings with Production, Sup and crew Team player who takes direction well.
Dependable under pressure with attention to detail.
Digital Domain experience is a plus.
