DEPARTMENT

The 3D Artist-In-Residence position is a full-time, non tenure earning faculty position in the College of Motion Picture Arts.

The Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts was created with the mission of preparing students for successful careers in the motion picture industry and it is one of the most highly ranked film schools in the United States, described by the Hollywood Reporter as *one of the world's best,* the New York Times as *one of the top motion picture schools in the nation,* and honored by the Directors Guild of America for its *distinguished contribution to American culture through the world of film and television.* The College of Motion Picture Arts is renowned for the number of Student Oscar®, Emmy®, and notable national and international awards its students earn each year. (FSU earned four Student Emmys® in 2011, more than any other US school.) The faculty comprises award-winning industry experts with a combined 400+ feature film credits who share a gift for teaching students the art, craft and business of storytelling in the motion picture industry. 

The Florida State University*s new collaboration with the Digital Domain Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida, is a unique public-private partnership model designed to bring together the best of education and the best of industry. The flagship initiative of the collaboration is a new Animation & Digital Arts program in which students earn a four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the FSU College of Motion Picture Arts, while at the same time earning a three-year diploma in specialized areas of digital production from the Digital Domain Institute.

Salary is negotiable depending on education and experience, but the minimum is $55,000.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and deliver course curriculum related to 3D animation and visual effects, including, but not limited to: 3D modeling, texture, animation, lighting, rendering, and camera tracking.

Teaching courses at a variety of levels (from introductory to advanced) for both undergraduate Animation & Digital Arts majors and students in digital production certificate programs.

Mentoring and advising students and faculty.

Contribute to curriculum/program development, including serving on committees, researching industry trends, and advising on classroom facilities, tools, and technology.

Participating in the review of prospective students, entrance interviews, and the academic evaluation of students.

Participate in campus recruiting, orientation, and graduation events, as well as various workshops and meetings.

Ongoing and active involvement in research and/or creative work.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Terminal degree in Film/Art/Animation (or related field) or equivalent professional experience as demonstrated by portfolio, curriculum vita, and motion picture, television, or commercial credits.

A high level of expertise in several of the following areas of digital production: hard-surface modeling, organic modeling, texture creation, look development, basic animation, lighting, rendering, and camera tracking, using several industry-standard applications such as Maya, ZBrush, Mudbox, Modo, Boujou, PFTrack, SynthEyes, 3D-Coat, Katana, Arnold, V-Ray, mental ray, RenderMan, Mari, RV, Photoshop and Nuke.  Experience with production teams is highly desirable.  Preferred applicants will be practicing artists with experience in leading production teams.  

Experience designing and delivering digital production curriculum. Preferred applicants will have a strong track record of developing innovative teaching methods and materials for a higher education setting.

Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present material to a variety of audiences.
