Are you passionate about video games? Do you want to keep progressing in an exciting, young and dynamic environment? Gameloft is currently seeking a Level Designer to join our iOS and Android production teams to work on our upcoming RPGs and FPS games.

Gameloft creates games for all digital platforms, including mobile phones, smartphones and tablets (including Apple® iOS and Android® devices), set-top boxes, Smart TVs, and HTML5 browsers. Founded in 1999 and a top innovator in its field, Gameloft distributes its games in over 100 countries.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

The Level Designer will work with the Game Designers to define the architecture and content of each level and must ensure that the levels in the game correctly use the gameplay elements defined by the Game Designers. After the design phase is complete, the Level Designer will oversee the integration of the level design elements (scripted events, enemy placement, general creation, etc.) by the Technical Designers.

  • Create level maps, first on paper then in 3D
  • Review the implementation of these levels by the Technical Designers
  • Define the placement of interactive objects, enemies and scripted events
  • Implement a list of useful tools to help create game levels
  • Implement a strict naming procedure to simplify group work
  • Assist the Lead Designer in designing various game elements and levels
  • Double-check all added content in a game to ensure quality and conformity
  • Assess the pacing and difficulty of a game using curves
  • Test levels repeatedly
  • Prepare presentations and level design documents


Requirements

Skills and Profile

  • At least 1 year of experience in level design
  • Portfolio including several examples of levels you have created
  • Strong knowledge of 3D Studio Max or Maya is essential
  • Able to create level maps on paper or in 2D
  • Knowledge of Google SketchUp is an asset
  • Advanced knowledge in level design for action games, RPGs or FPS games
  • Good knowledge of different scripting languages
  • Good knowledge of game editors (e.g. Hammer, UnrealEd, etc.)
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office and creating a game prototype
  • Passionate about video games and their history
  • Knowledge of 2D and 3D animation methods
  • Able to learn new development tools
  • Excellent organizational skills and methodology
  • Good communication skills and able to work in a team
  • CEGEP degree or higher
  • Fluent in French and English is an asset
