The Lead Environment Artist is responsible for the quality, management and on-time delivery of all levels and missions in the multi-SKU tactical shooter game XCOM.  As Lead Environment Artist you will work directly with the Lead Level Designer, Lead Modeler, a team of experienced level architects and the Art Director to create a stunning world of alien invasion set against the backdrop of cold war 1960s America.  As Lead Environment Artist you will directly manage and mentor a talented team of level architects and report directly to the Art Director in seeing XCOM to final (not to mention saving the planet in the process).

 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

·         Manage the level team tasked with building large, multiple level, multi-SKU title

·         Collaborate with the Leads and Directors in the development and completion of levels

·         Ensure that all levels are compelling characters in themselves with a strong focus on set dressing, composition and mise-en-scene.

·         Ensure that all levels have been optimized for performance and memory

·         Sketch/Paint/Concept ideas for 3D game locations

·         Work out the details and concept modular systems of architecture for multiple levels

·         Mentor artist in layout and lighting levels in Unreal

·         Work cross-discipline to ensure that gameplay and 3D space function harmoniously

·         Work with Art director, Lead Modeler and concept artists to ensure artistic unity with the entire project

·         Work with the production team to manage the schedule of all levels.

Requirements

Required Skills

 

·         Proven leadership experience on shipped current generation console title(s)

·         Possess a wealth of experience architecting and lighting assets and spaces for games

·         Able to collaborate with production staff from other departments at a lead level

·         Able to collaborate, challenge and motivate junior to senior level artists in the art department

·         Can both give and take direction well

·         Able to respond elegantly to difficult creative changes, often late in the process

·         Self-motivated towards solving creative problems

·         Able to communicate with other artists visually using quick thumbnail sketches or paintings

·         Understand game-related concepts related to 3D space and possess a keen interest in the medium of videogames

Desired Skills / Extras

 

Extra Credit

 

·         Experience with the Unreal Engine

·         Fluency with 3D Studio Max and Photoshop

·         Background in architecture or lighting

·         7+ years game industry experience
