Senior Gameplay Developer (Story-Driven Games)

Description

About Us

FableLabs builds NOTHING but awesome story-driven games for the tablet and web. Our team of creatives and technologists from BioWare, Maxis, LucasArts, Meteor, and Disney have built and scaled products with millions of users and we've recently closed on fundraising to scale our team. We take the best storytelling elements of adventure / role playing games but make the gameplay accessible, free-to-play and fun for those who don’t have 8 hour blocks of time to hack and slash through dungeons.

We're building gameplay systems that lend themselves to great storytelling.  And we're not afraid of using these gameplay systems to tell fundamentally different stories than what you see in the industry today.  Our first couple of titles feature Sherlock Holmes recreated as a middle school nerd and a mother searching for her daughter in the depths of Hell.  As much as we love the sci-fi and fantasy genre, there's so many other stories we'd like to bring to bring to life with our gameplay systems. We're looking for folks that thrive when given significant responsibility, an atmosphere that stresses continuous learning and a touch of chaos as we explore uncharted territory.

About You

Some people love building gameplay features for players.  Others get a kick out of building gameplay systems that empower fellow game developers.  If you're the latter, we'd love to hear from you.  If you have an eye for design and user experience we will likely get the warm fuzzies, as we often skip extensive specs and go from whiteboard to prototypes. You're able to listen to creatives and understand how a laundry list of wishlist features boil down to a few easily buildable systems.

  • Rapidly prototyping game designs to find the fun
  • Rebuilding gameplay features as robust, reusable systems
  • Extending gameplay systems to content creators

  • Proficiency with interpreted languages (C#, Java) and/or scripting languages (Perl, Python, Lua)
  • B.S. in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

Application Details

  • Position is located in SOMA district of SF (close to Bart, Muni and Caltrain)
  • Top of the market salary, equity and full healthcare/dental/vision benefits
