Snr/Lead Lighting TD - VFX Montreal

Description

With direction from the show supervisors, look dev lighting setup and generate lighting rigs for use by Lighting TDs. Matching CG elements with live action plates and ensuring consistence of light levels and colour balance within a sequence. Liaise with CG Supervisor on a daily basis for shot allocation and feedback.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with shader writers and the CG Supervisor to establish lighting pipeline for each sequence.
  • Develop and apply lighting rig and HDRI setup to scenes. Adjusting shaders and lighting levels to add realism and match CG elements to live action plates while maintaining consistency across shots.
  • Give direction and technical guidance to lighting team to maintain the required standard of work and ensure the lighting pipeline is followed.
  • Lead Lighting dailies for the show and provide constructive feedback to the team to enable them to move forward with their work.
  • Work with texture artists, animators and shader writers to resolve technical issues and optimise scenes for render. Work closely with compositors to ensure all required passes and layers are rendered.
  • Provide technical and personnel feedback to Producers, VFX Supervisor and CG Supervisor to aid scheduling and shot allocation.
  • Provide CG Supervisor and Producers with progress reports on an “as needed” basis.
  • Ensure paperwork is accurately filled out to enable production accountant/producer to accurately predict profitability/completion of project.
  • Work with the Producer and CG Supervisor to estimate time scales and prioritise work

SKILLS REQUIRED (in brackets are non-essential but preferred):

  • Excellent Maya, VRay, Renderman Studio and Renderman skills.
  • Previous experience lighting photorealistic CG in live action environments
  • Thorough understanding of the visual effects pipeline from modelling through animation, texturing, rendering and compositing
  • Ability to work well in a team and solve shot specific issues independently
  • Experience leading and training others.
  • (Mel and/or Python scripting)
  • (Familiarity of Linux and basic shader-writing skills)
  • (Understanding of compositing in Nuke)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organised and methodical
  • Proactive with the ability to work on your own initiative
  • Ability to motivate yourself and your colleagues in a highly pressurised environment
