Technical Physics Artist

Do you have an uncontrollable urge to violently smash things just to see what happens? Do you find yourself preoccupied by the unseen structure that keeps an object together? Are you unsatisfied with your work until you’ve destroyed it repeatedly? Wargaming Seattle is looking for a 3D Physics Artist that delights in making awesome 3D assets and breaking them in ways that also look awesome. Our ideal candidate will work with Level Designers, 3D Artists and VFX Artists to build and modify game assets so that they look amazing when meeting destructive physics forces in-game.
Responsibilities
Create and Prepare 3D Meshes for Real-Time and Canned Physics breakage / deformation:

  • Set up 3D assets to be destroyed in-game using dynamic physics systems
  • 3D model and texture buildings and props to photo-real quality
  • Help establish best practices for creating art that efficiently uses dynamic damage systems
  • Help establish and manage pipeline-friendly standards for 3D assets that use dynamic physics
  • Create and Supplement with 3D art that may only be seen after an object has been damaged
  • Work with level designers to make destructible environment pieces exciting and fun in-game
Skills and Traits
Required:
  • Expertise in making and breaking 3D game assets, demonstrated through a portfolio that shows:
  • Fantastic 3D models and textures / materials using major 3D and 2D Packages
  • (Man-made Props, Structures, Vehicles, Rocks)
  • Proficiency setting up 3D assets that use dynamic physics systems to modify the mesh (EG Havok Destruction, Havok Deformation)
  • Experience creating destructible/deformable assets in a real-time game engine
  • Solutions-oriented approach to performance and gameplay needs
  • Ambitious and critical eye for in-game destruction and deformation of 3D meshes
  • Organized team player with great communication skills; always open to feedback
  • Self-motivated, creative and optimistic problem solver; solid time management
Desired:
  • Deep understanding of realtime / physics collision systems for videogames
  • Understanding of industrial design principles and architecture
  • Familiarity with VFX systems and how they integrate with physics destruction
  • Scripting / tool-making ability to support 3D asset physics destruction systems
  • Passion for videogames and game development technology
