Xaviant is looking for a talented individual to be a part of the team working on the immersive Action RPG title, Lichdom. This particular opening requires that the candidate be motivated, possess excellent communication skills, and has the ability to work well with a cross-disciplinary group.

In this position you’ll harness your leadership experience to collaborate with a cross-disciplinary task force of designers, programmers, animators, and production to create top-tier effects that engages and connects with players. Your ability to communicate clearly and build consensuses is the glue that holds this varied group together as you develop and implement concepts and strategies that exceed expectations and meet team goals. 

In addition to leading and working through a team of very talented VFX artists, you’ll also design and help implement the sleek, dynamic and dramatic special effects that add atmosphere and depth to gameplay. With your experience, you’ll create iconic visual effects that communicate essential game information.

That requires the ability to delegate work to your team, not protect favorite bits of work from necessary change, and the ability to interface and negotiate with the design team for the healthiest solutions for everyone.

So who are we looking for?

Someone who is:

  • Educated & Experienced: You’ve honed your artistic skills with 7+ years of on-the-job experience, you have experience in different pipelines, different projects and has earned the confidence and the troubleshooting skills of a master in their field. You are self-motivated and have a mature response to changes and difficulties.
  • Experienced artist: At this point in your career, you’ve worked enough with the tools of the trade that your tasks are no longer difficult. You are clean and thorough in export and integration tasks, recognizing the value in the necessary technicalities of the pipeline. Changing programs and switching between engines is no biggie. Been there, done that. What matters is making great effects!
  • A cross-disciplinary leader: You can proactively approach other leads and team members to gather the information and buy-in that you need to push the envelope and promote collaboration to reach higher goals.
  • Motivator & Negotiator: You inspire others to take initiative and grow. You know how to diffuse tense situations and reach a compromise with other disciplines.

 

What does a Lead VFX Artist do?

  • Drive and evolve the aesthetic quality of visual effects in game to clearly communicate in-game information while making players’ jaws drop.
  • Values working through his team’s hands as well as his own.
  • Turn wild ideas that are brought to you into realistic project goals.
  • Grow and actively mentor a team of high-performing artists, and collaborate with members from Design, Engineering, Art, and Production to produce high dynamic effects that engage the players.
  • Assess and manage Xaviant’s visual effects needs, actively identifying opportunities, risks, and pipelines to maximize teamwork and successful outcomes
  • Validate the effectiveness of visual effects through playtest feedback, research and community collaboration.
  • Know how to negociate the deliverables successfully by boiling down concepts or, boiling them up bigaccording to the needs of the project.
