Description:

Award-winning animation studio Axis Animation creates stunning animation for some of the world’s leading names in Games, Commercials, Broadcast and Film. Founded in 2000, the studio prides itself in producing high quality innovative animation from their base in Glasgow, Scotland.

 

Recent works include the episodic Halo: Infinity for Halo 4, game trailers for popular titles such as Dead Island 2, Crackdown, Alien Isolation, Fable Legends, as well as various film, television and commercials work in conjunction with sister studio Axis VFX.

 

Axis is entering an exciting new phase, as we begin to explore the potential of games engines in creating cinematic sequences. We have a highly experienced team that produces awesome cinematics, day in, day out, with a traditional VFX pipeline. The challenge for the team now is to create the same awesomeness in-engine. Your role is to help us get there. You will be collaborating with several departments: Modelling, Animation, Rigging, Effects and Lighting/Rendering/Postprocessing, helping them to realise technical solutions in-engine.

 

Candidates are required, and must be eligible at time of application, to work on-site in Glasgow.

 

Responsibilities

  • To research open-ended technical challenges independently and present findings to the team.  

  • To provide mentorship to other team members and accurately document processes.

  • To create custom shaders/materials in order to realise particular looks and art styles.

 

Essential Skills

  • Unreal Engine 4

  • Significant experience in creating custom shaders/materials.

  • Broad knowledge of Blueprints.

  • Solid understanding of performance analysis and optimisation

  • Good knowledge of overall content pipeline.

  • Good understanding of rendering pipeline.

  • Mathematically literate; comfortable with developing new approaches.

 

Desirable

  • Experience in creating in-engine cinematics.

  • Experience working on shipped titles.

  • Unity, CryEngine.

  • Python

  • Houdini/Maya (esp sims, shader networks).
