We are currently looking for a Rigging Supervisor.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with production management to prioritize tasks and meet the project deadlines / milestones set by the production department
- Keep Managers and the Production Team informed of progress, changes, roadblocks and other critical issues
- Accountable for developing and improving rigging technology and workflows, and defining the character pipeline
- Take initiative to resolve pipeline issues through research, identifying and implementing solutions
- Streamline workflow and enhance productivity within the studio
- Design and create animator friendly rigs that work with Maya's referencing and scene assembly pipelines
- Collaborate with Tracking / Layout / Animation Lead or Director to design rigs
- Coordinate with other departments (Modeling, FX, Lighting) for mutual beneficial output
- Work closely with Character Dev Supervisor to oversee cloth and hair setup for integration into rigs
- Develop and maintain character motion and deformation systems
- Work with R&D to design, debug and evaluate new tools
- Develop new techniques and processes to solve character production challenges
- Write utility scripts and programs to streamline the setup process or assist in animation
- Communicate
information about new tools and techniques to others, and ensure that
tool documentation stays up to date in the wiki
- Mentor and take a educational role in improving the skills of teammates
Qualifications:
- Experience in leading a team and able to function in a team environment
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Detail oriented while considering the broad context and needs of the production
- 5+ years professional experience rigging characters for feature VFX films or animated features in Maya
- nCloth / nHair and Maya Muscle knowledge desirable
- Experience with simulation setup, and integration of simulation elements into rigs
- Experience shot finaling and procedural finaling solutions
- Excellent Python or PyMel scripting capabilities
- Other 3d package (Blender, Houdini or Modo) knowledge a plus
- Training in visual arts and understanding of form, geometry and movement
- Knowledge of mathematics, such as linear algebra, trigonometry, geometry, calculus and differential geometry would be a plus
- Knowledge in programming and software development skills, and experience with “gcc” a plus
- Linux experience desired but not a must
