Graphics Performance Architect

The Graphics Architecture Team of Visual and Parallel Computing Group (VPG) is responsible for the architectural definition of current and future processor graphics engines for platforms ranging from server to handheld devices meeting a variety of consumer and corporate needs. In this position, you will be responsible for performance analysis using the latest 3D and video technologies including major APIs and video codecs. Candidate will be part of a technical team responsible for characterization of future low power processor graphics products. Responsibilities include GPU and platform power/performance analysis, identification and analysis of system performance bottlenecks, development of perf/power characterization tools, and quantification of performance/power tradeoffs. Team further ensures that the platform and its components have the best performance/power balance specifically focusing on graphics hardware components. These activities include research and development of next generation platform designs that advance the performance per watt of Intel platforms year on year. The team also conducts system analysis on both proprietary and competitive platforms and develops advanced hardware tuning and overclocking procedures. 

The candidate will work within the graphics architecture team and with hardware and software development teams to accomplish team goals. The candidate should have technical leadership ability, strong problem solving skills, and strong communication skills to interact with various engineering development teams. The candidate should have an understanding of computer architecture and general knowledge of computer system design. Specifically, the candidate must have a good understanding of graphics, microprocessors, memory subsystems, and bus interfaces. A solid understanding in graphics workloads, software, and graphics architecture is required to successfully design and execute experiments as well as collect/analyze graphics/system level performance data as part of this team. 
Ensures platform and its components have the best performance and power balance specifically focusing on graphics hardware components. Research and development of next generation platform designs to continually improve the performance. Conducts system analysis on proprietary and competition platforms, develops advanced hardware tuning and overclocking.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications: 
Candidate must have a Bachelor's degree with 6+ years' experience, a Master's degree with 4+years' experience, or a PhD with 2+years' experience. Degree should be in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field. Excellent ability to logically organize and clearly present experimental data is a must. Experience should be in the following areas: 
- Familiar with GPGPU APIs 
- Knowledgeable about parallel computing, such as thread parallelism (function and/or data partitioning) and data parallelism (SIMD and/or MIMD) and ability to apply them to GPU 
- Graphics architecture and hardware development experience 
- Experience with 3D and/or GPGPU workloads and power/performance evaluation 
- Experience with OS, SW installation, power/performance measurements, and tools 
- 3D graphics and media Benchmarking, D3D, and OpenGL APIs 
- Scripting/automation experience including PERL and batch file scripting
