Graphics Power Architect

Description

Description

The Graphics Architecture Team of the Visual & Parallel Computing Group (VPG) is responsible for the architecture definition and evolution of Processor Graphics engines for the Intel product line that spans phone, tablet, laptop, and desktop. The MAP team within the Graphics Architecture Team is responsible for graphics power/performance Modeling, Analysis and Projections that span the entire graphics multi-year product roadmap. If you have an interest in graphics, we need a broad range of skills that encompass tool and capability development as well as power/performance modeling, analysis, and projections.

Currently we have an immediate need for improving and using our power estimation methodologies. The power modeling and analysis will be used to refine the models used for projections, create internal design targets, conduct thermal analysis, and evaluate pros/cons of various architectural implementations for future designs (TR studies). The majority of new features can only be implemented if the performance per watt has improved.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

- Own and drive the development, refinement and usage of the underlying infrastructure of ALPS (Architectural Level Power Simulator) used to analyze and define future graphics IP implementations.

- Analyze the distribution of power within the graphics cores across a broad range of graphics workloads to identify the opportunities for power reduction and performance/watt optimizations.

- Use current silicon measurements to improve both our power estimates for future projects and understanding of system considerations.

- Assist in architectural decisions effecting new feature analyses (TR studies), module count (#EUs, #subslices, pixel rates, ....) and quarterly power/performance CAGR studies over the multi-year project roadmap.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

You must have a Bachelor's degree with 4 years' experience, or a Master's degree with 3 years' experience. Degree should be in Computer Science/Engineering or related field.  Experience should be in the following areas:

- Computer and/or graphics architecture, design, and/or validation

- Strong debugging and problem solving skills

- Scripting skills (Windows/Unix, C/C++/Python, databases)

Preferred Qualifications:

An ideal candidate will have knowledge and/or experience in some of the following:

- Power consumption modeling, estimation, and analysis.

- How power consumption of silicon devices is impacted by operating systems, applications, platform, product architecture, product implementation, and process technology.

- Performance simulators and/or strong programming skills in C++ and Perl/Python.

- Measuring power from packages (FIVR) and/or motherboards.

- Thermal modeling and requirements effecting Tj and Tskin.

- 3D, GPGPU/OCL, and/or media graphic architectures. CPU architectures.

- Design flow: Digital building blocks, RTL, synthesis, PV, and layout.

- Validation: workload selection, platform issues, debug, and analysis.
