Associate Academic Specialist in Animation

The Department of Art + Design seeks an Animator, as faculty, to teach the art and craft of animation and lead ongoing development and growth in the Animation Concentration and Minor of our BFA in Media Arts.

This faculty member will collaborate with others to develop cross-discipline strategies for student success within our department offerings and other disciplines and practices across our college and university.

S/he is expected to establish an innovative, creative, and inspiring milieu and support artistic exploration, improvement of individual craft skills and realization of original ideas in varied styles of artistic expression. Special talents and interests in illustration, data visualization, robotics, and/or games are a plus.

The candidate must be able to teach using professional tools, such as Autodesk Maya, and demonstrate proficiency and/or professional experience in the following techniques: 3D digital animation, modeling, texturing, rigging, and lighting. It is expected that the successful candidate will continue to make art, develop craft and offer new skills to students in an evolving program of experimentation and innovation.

The successful candidate will:
• Apply organizational skills with collegiality to lead the Animation Concentration
• Provide rigorous experiential learning for students in digital studios and beyond
• Work with Co-op faculty to establish and maintain valuable and meaningful Co-ops
• Collaborate with faculty members in Art, Media Arts, Design, Game Design and across the college 
• Focus on undergraduate learning and contribute to teaching in graduate (MFA) programs
• Provide academic mentoring, connections to the field, and career advice to students
• Sustain active professional creative scholarship and cultural production in this field

Ideal candidates for the position will have established a record of exceptional teaching, industry experience and professional accomplishment in one or more of the following areas of animation: data visualization, cinema, television, game production, character development, 3D modeling, 3D animation, visual effects, illustration, motion capture tools, editing techniques or project development and management. 

Applicants with a strong background of interdisciplinary practice, media experimentation, collaborative production, and professional experience are preferred.

This is a full-time, multi-year, non-tenure track appointment expected to begin on or before Fall 2015.  Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. A terminal degree (MFA) is required.
