Recruiting and HR Specialist

CoSA VFX seeks a personable, team-oriented Recruiting and HR Specialist to join our growing company in North Hollywood, CA. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a dynamic small-business environment. 

CoSA provides visual effects for high-profile TV shows and feature films. Recent projects include Gotham, Person of Interest, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Guardians of the Galaxy. 


Responsibilities

Applicants must be based in Los Angeles, and available for in-person interview at our office in North Hollywood, CA.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Sourcing and onboarding new hires based on project needs

• Anticipate upcoming resource needs, and collaborate with supervisors to draft and post job openings
• Cultivate relationships with potential hires, monitoring availability for future recruiting needs
• Represent the company in a favorable manner to potential hires and at recruiting events
• Relay information on promising candidates to hiring managers, and schedule interviews at their request. Make recommendations to hiring managers
• Perform background checks on shortlisted candidates, and extend offers at the request of the hiring manager
• Maintain a searchable record of candidates, interviews, and hiring outcomes
• Prepare new hires for their first day at the company, and participate in a welcoming and consistent onboarding process
• Help maintain up-to-date records for employees, including a calendar of employee start, end and vacation dates

Supporting employee development within the company

• Collaborate with supervisors to schedule timely performance and compensation reviews, and efficiently implement subsequent changes
• Explore opportunities for staff training and mentoring, formal and informal, both inside and outside the company
• Expand the company’s internship program, cultivating relationships with targeted college programs 

Developing HR practices and policies for a growing business

• Participate in developing an efficient filing system for HR records, and maintaining complete historical information for all employees
• Ensure compliance is maintained, keeping company practices up-to-date with employment / labor laws and regulations
• Expand and update company policies, procedures and related documents, as needed
• Assist management in exploring opportunities for employee benefits, and make recommendations for benefits administration
• Provide supporting information for benefits claims, insurance audits and employment verification, as requested

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years experience performing recruiting and/or HR duties in a professional environment. Bachelor's degree in business or human resources preferred. 
• Familiarity with state and federal employment regulations required. Professional certification such as PHR or PHR-CA a plus.
• Superior interpersonal skills, verbal and written communications skills, multitasking, and attention to detail.
• Ability to perform tasks independently and accurately with minimal supervision, while seeking input from management whenever appropriate.
• Proven track record of handling sensitive and confidential matters with discretion. 
• Demonstrate exemplary punctuality, professionalism, open-mindedness, and constructive working relationships to others.
• Ability to stay focused on helping the organization as a whole deliver results in situations where HR administration projects may be impacted.
• A solid understanding of the project-based nature of film and television production -- along with the types of employment opportunities (freelance, project-based, staff) found in the industry -- is highly desirable.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant HR practices by attending workshops, reviewing publications and participating in professional societies.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Mac OS X.
