Payroll Officer – Facility (Vancouver)
Description
We are seeking a Payroll Officer who will be responsible for the day to day
management and accurate and timely full function processing of the bi-weekly
payroll for the Vancouver studio.
This is an all-encompassing role
working within a compact Finance team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting the Financial
Controller and Executive Vice President and General Manager with the
selection and implementation of a payroll processing system (currently
outsourced to a third party processor), internal controls, payroll
policies and procedures
- Bi-weekly inputting and
processing of payroll for up to 300 timesheet-based employees
- Ensuring payroll taxes are
accurately calculated and remitted
- Ensuring taxable
benefits (health, fringe) are accurately recognized, reported and
reconciled
- Working closely with
Production to ensure timesheets are submitted on a weekly basis
- Working closely with
HR to ensure all payroll data is up to date and accurate
- Timely and accurate input
and reporting of approved overtime, staff vacation and other leave
applications
- Accurate processing and
reporting of all termination payments and records of employment
- Assistance as required with
monthly reconciliation and clearance of all payroll related general ledger
accounts
- Production, reconciliation
and distribution of associated payroll reports
- Assisting employees with
payroll inquiries and other duties relating to payroll
- Preparation and
reconciliation of all fiscal year end payroll related requirements
including generation of T4s and other annual payroll related reporting and
remittances (ex. WCB)
- Assistance where required
with annual financial audit
Additional information:
- This is a newly formed
studio where a start-up environment is to be expected for the first year.
Changes will happen quickly and often
- Headcount will start small
but will steadily increase to 300 people. The first few months will be
heavily focused on selecting and implementing a new payroll system and
developing systems and polices to ensure a smoothly running payroll
process
- The Payroll Officer will be
solely responsible for the payroll function so the desired candidate must
be confident and capable to work independently. Cross-training with other
members of the finance team will be ensured and help will always be
available when needed
- This is a great opportunity
for a self-starter who is looking to build the payroll function from the
ground up
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A minimum of five years
full function payroll experience, preferably in the film or television
entertainment related service industries
- Degree or Diploma in
related discipline, plus current PCP, CPM, CPP or similar payroll
certification
- Experience with Great
Plains General Ledger System (or similar)
- Advanced Excel and Word
proficiency
- Superior reconciliation and
analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and
excellent time management
- Good interpersonal skills
and ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
- Honesty, reliability and
ethical integrity
